National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Rural Electric Youth Tour

The Youth Tour, which the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) coordinates, brings together nearly 1,500 students from 44 states. It's an opportunity for students to learn about electric cooperatives and experience how the American government system works. It's also a chance to meet other youth from rural America.

Four Students from the junior class at each of the ten high schools in the JMEC inc. service area attend a regular Board of Trustees meeting at the Coop. They are selected by their counselors to participate as Junior Board of Trustees in the annual "Essay Contest". The top scorers of the contest become actual participants of the Government-In-Action Youth Tour.

Winners receive an all-expense paid trip to the nation's capital during the month of June.
