Youth Tour

Every year, a Youth Tour participant is chosen to represent his or her state on the Youth Leadership Council (YLC) by his or her state delegation during the NRECA Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. Click here to view the Youth Tour page on Facebook.

The purpose of the YLC conference is to build leadership and public speaking skills, and to enhance the delegates' knowledge of the energy industry and the cooperative form of business.




Grand Prize

An all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. with other Youth Tour winners from across the state of NM. JMEC will award TWO trips!!


High school juniors from one of the 6 high schools (Coronado High School, Cuba High School, Espanola Valley High School, Jemez Valley High School, McCurdy Charter High School and Pojoaque High School)  who are also children or dependents of active JMEC members.

Contest Rules 

Contest is now closed. 



Essays will be judged as follows:

  • Subject Content: 50%

  • Grammar & Composition: 30%

  • Originality: 20%

All essays will be judged by the Selection Committee that is appointed by the School Committee. The Selection Committee will select two (2) winners. Winners will be notified by a 2016 date to be determined. In all cases, the decision of the Judges is final.

2017 Youth Tour contest documents and deadlines will be posted in the fall.
