73rd Annual Meeting of Members – one of our biggest ever!
Members responded in droves to our call to join us for the 73rd Annual Meeting of Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative, Inc., held Sun. Aug. 28 at the La Luz Campground.
Members heard about the business of their cooperative:
-
The Strategic Planning Session held by the board of trustees last September
-
The need for the first rate increase in 10 years
-
Building the JMEC employee team
-
Proposing a partial buyout of our power supplier, Tri-State, as the only way to free up more JMEC electric capacity to help members with small, local solar
-
Pursuing high-speed internet after a survey showed 96 percent of members wanted JMEC to enter into this business (separate from and not subsidized by JMEC’s electric business)
-
The completed forensic audit which reported that while it found no fraud had been committed, there were many suggestions to improving internal controls which JMEC is starting to implement
-
The success of the summer of Special District Meetings which enables making needed changes to outdated bylaws possible
Throughout the meeting, members talked with their trustees and enjoyed time with friends and family. We are delighted to congratulate Mr. Jimmy Vigil of Chimayo, the winner of the grand prize 2022 CF Moto Side by Side. The JMEC team thanks the many who attended and apologizes for the long, long lines for registration and lunch. We know it was frustrating for all. We have learned from this and will work toward a better experience in the future.
